Campus Kitchen at Saint Peter’s University in Jersey City has a purpose to repurpose. One in 7 Americans are considered to be food insecure, not knowing where there next meal will come from and Erich Sekel, the associate director of Campus Ministry for community service, supervises a student-led program that seeks to change that.
Campus Kitchen is a volunteer program at Saint Peter’s University, where students help save food that would be wasted from dining halls, cafeterias and grocery stores and repackage and repurpose them into meals directly to those in need. Serving 10,113 meals just its first year, the program has been expanding and is already looking to open up another kitchen workspace.
