On April 19, 2009 Cake Boss, premiered on TLC, it’s a show about a baker and his loud, crazy Italian Family running a bakery in Hoboken, New Jersey. People would come from all over the world to buy a specialty cake by the baker. Ever since then the show and the bakery have taken off. Five seasons and a spinn-off later, Carlo’s bakery is one of the best known establishments in Hoboken. You dont believe me; ask the poeple who stand in line for hours just to get inside and taste the baked deliciousness. As the shows popularity rose so did the business. Recently Buddy Velastro bought space in a warehouse so he could expand his bakery. Lackawanna is only a few miles from the main storefront on Washington Street in Hoboken. Lackawanna is where most of the baking takes place.
I recently went to Carlo’s just to see what the fuss was all about, and let me tell you the line is most definitely worth it. Seeing as thousands of people go in and out of the bakery on a daily basis I wanted to know what the workers thought of the people coming from across the country just to taste some cake and take a picture. Christopher Flores, doorman and filler, gave us the scoop on the business. He let us know when they are busy, and about a fight he witnessed just because the bakery was closed.
